At the time we found out I was pregnant my husband, Nick, had one request: maternity photos. I dreaded the idea because getting in front of a camera takes me completely out of my comfort zone. I like being behind the camera where I am in control.
Honestly, I put off maternity photos until the 7th month of pregnancy when my husband insisted we book our session. I called my wonderful friend Autumn Branscome of Autumn Branscome Photography and asked her to shoot our session. Autumn & I had shot a wedding the week at an amazing location where just before sunset the light was amazing.
My reservations of getting in front of the camera were significantly worse because I was pregnant. All women have issues with their looks (my main ones being I currently dislike my hair cut and I think I have “chipmunk” cheeks, ha) and of course pregnancy really does not help my face to be slim. I expressed my issues to Autumn and she did a wonderful job shooting to make me look my best.
I have to admit my husband was right. I am so thankful to have these maternity photographs. I’m thankful he made me have a session and that Autumn was our photographer. To view our session on Autumn’s blog, be sure to check out her blog post about our session!
And now my words of advice to all of you who make up reasons why having a photo session isn’t convenient at the time because you don’t like how you look, you want to lose a few more pounds, you don’t have time and the myriad of other excuses we all (especially ladies!) use… STOP! Hire a professional photographer who your personality meshes with, tell them your issues with yourself and the things you love and let the photographer work his or her magic! I would not have these amazing photos of my husband & myself had Nick & Autumn not talked me into it. Obviously I would not have known what I was missing, but seeing them now I know I would have been missing photos that I will cherish for life.
