Most of the time when I blog a wedding I tell the story of how the bride & groom met or another cute story about them, but this blog is going to be a little different. I have a story to tell about the most patient and laid back bride I have ever met, a groom who adored his bride enough to clean up tons of water so their ceremony could occur and the rainiest Charleston WV wedding day of all.
The week before Lanee & Ross’ wedding day called for rain but Lanee refused to believe it would happen. Autumn & I arrived at the event to find sunshine welcoming us to start formal photos. Since Lanee wanted formal shots on the ever popular Capitol Street in downtown we walked the few blocks to the street and started to photograph a stunning group of ladies. As we were shooting I noticed the sky was getting darker and darker. As we kept an eye on the clouds we came up with a game plan to shoot as long as possible but be within 4 feet of a business that would allow us to seek refuge for the couple of moments needed to let the rain pass over. Thankfully we were close to iFit24 and they allowed us to seek refuge when the rain hit. The only problem was the rain never stopped…
After about 30 minutes of hiding out, the hotel sent the shuttle to pick us up where we managed to keep Lanee dry utilizing our handy-dandy and very large reflector. We made it back to the hotel and managed to wrap up formal photos between rain showers. The only problem, which at the time our lovely bride did not know, was that the ceremony site had been absolutely demolished from the storms. The tents had blown off the rooftop onto the street below, the flowers were drenched and everything was a mess. This is the moment I knew that Ross madly loved Lanee and his friends were true friends… the moment when the groomsmen all rolled up their sleeves and repaired the ceremony site with only a short amount of time before the ceremony was set to start.
We managed to have enough sun shine for the couple to have a stunning ceremony, beautiful first dance and a couple of rainy dances before we were forced to retreat inside the hotel next door. Thankfully the hotel had room for us to continue Lanee & Ross’ celebration.
They say rain on your wedding day is good luck but I don’t believe these two will ever need luck in their love. The two never once had a negative word to say during their entire day. Ross’ only concern was whether his beautiful bride was happy and had the day she had always dreamt of having and Lanee never once even when stuck inside a gym on the most important day of her life stopped smiling. These two truly know how to dance in the rain… literally and figuratively.
